The Importance of a Fire Evacuation Plan
All business owners hope that they never have to worry about a fire breaking out at their company. It’s important to think about your contingency plan for your business in Charden, OH, however, just in case a fire does occur. Before you consider what to do about your building or when to call fire restoration specialists, you must think about the people in your building. How do you plan to evacuate them if your building goes up in flames?
1. Mapped Evacuation Routes
Every person who works in your building should have a clear path to the outside if the building catches fire. Your evacuation plan must map routes to the doorways that get the most people out in the least amount of time. It is also a good idea to have a contingency plan so that people in each section of the building have a backup route in the event that their planned path becomes obstructed during the fire.
2. Assigned Duties and Responsibilities
In every emergency, there are tasks that must be completed. Someone has to initiate the evacuation. Someone has to be in charge of handing out equipment or respirators as needed. Others need to be tasked with making sure everyone in their area, including guests and those who require special assistance, has proceeded along the evacuation route. The chain of command in emergency situations has to be clear, and everyone needs to know what his or her responsibilities are.
3. Organized Accountability
When people walk out the door, they need a designated meeting area that is close enough that everyone can arrive in a timely manner but far away enough to be safe and out of the way of emergency response teams. It is a good idea to take a staff roster and guest log with you when you leave the building so that you can check those present against it and confirm everyone evacuated.
Everyone at your company in Charden, OH, needs to know what to do in case of a fire. Having a contingency plan can save lives.
